在《戈勒列茲筆記本》裡，很少找到李斯特責罵學生的紀錄，下面是其中之二：
「你不是在彈琴，你在捅琴。要是你沒耳朵去聆聽，還彈琴幹嗎？這曲子是誰教你的？不錯，馬蒙泰 (譯註: Antoine François Marmontel, 1816 –1898, 法國鋼琴家) 每課20馬克，這裡一切免費。在馬蒙泰那邊甚麼也學不到，但在這裡你可以學到一些東西。找一所音樂學院唸書去吧，不要來我這裡。」

was not played, but stabbed; if you have no ears to hear, then why are you
playing the piano? With whom did you study that? Indeed, with Marmontel the
lesson costs 20 Marks, here everything is gratis; for that you learn nothing
there but here you are able to learn something. You must go to some sort of a
conservatory, but not to me.”

“First, wash your dirty linen really well at home before you come to me. All of that runs together in confusion like eggs and grease. Generally, one plays such nonsense from memory.” He did not permit the piece to be played to the end.
